  1. How to install DLG
  2.  
  3. This utility will install DLG onto your
  4. system.
  5.  
  6. DLG consists of several small modules
  7. that must be copied into various
  8. directories on your hard drive.
  9.  
  10. This install utility will make all of the
  11. proper directories for you, and copy all
  12. of the modules and files that DLG needs
  13. into them. Once the installation process
  14. is complete, a special startup file will
  15. be placed on your hard drive so that you
  16. can start DLG up properly.

  20. To start the installation process, press
  21. the button labled INSTALL that you see
  22. below.
  23.  
  24. The next screen that you will see will
  25. have blank fields that you need to fill in
  26. with information about where you would
  27. like the DLG files installed. DLG
  28. has five main sections, each of which
  29. require a certain amount of drive space.
  30. If you have multiple partitions on your
  31. hard drive, or if you have multiple hard
  32. drives installed in your system, here is
  33. some information for you to consider as
  34. you decide where to install DLG:
  35.  
  36. DLG: This contains all of the programs and
  37. utilities that comprise the DLG system.
  38. This volume will require approximately 1.3
  39. Megs of drive space.
  40.  
  41. MSG: This will contain all of the message
  42. areas for your DLG system. Count on
  43. this taking up 100K of drive space or so
  44. per message area that you plan to have.
  45.  
  46. FILE: This will contain all of the file
  47. descriptions for each of your file areas,
  48. and will often contain the files
  49. themselves. Depending on how large a
  50. system you want to create, you will need a
  51. variable amount of drive space for this.
  52.  
  53. USER: This will contain all of the data on
  54. your users. This will require a moderate
  55. amount of drive space - approximately 1K
  56. per user.
  57.  
  58. DLGConfig: This contains various batch,
  59. configuration, and text files. This
  60. requires about 300K of drive space.
  61.  
  62. If you only have one partition, simply
  63. type a path name into the requester that
  64. says "Install All Of DLG To:", or press
  65. the PATH button at the end of the
  66. requester to choose a path with your mouse
  67. from a file requester.
  68.  
  69. If you have multiple hard drives or
  70. partitions, you may want to individually
  71. select alternate paths for each section of
  72. DLG. These will act to override the
  73. setting in the "Install All Of DLG To:"
  74. path requester. If you leave an alternate
  75. path requester blank, the install program
  76. will install that section to the same path
  77. that is entered the "Install All Of DLG
  78. To:" requester. If you have not properly
  79. filled out the requesters, the install
  80. program will refuse to proceed.

  82. If you press the PATH button at the end of
  83. any of the path requesters, a special file
  84. requestor appears, which is broken up into
  85. three areas. The first area will list all
  86. of the available DEVICES on your system.
  87. All hard drives, partitions, and floppy
  88. drives will be listed in this area.

  90. The second area lists all ASSIGNS on your
  91. system. You can pick either an ASSIGN or a
  92. DEVICE - this choice will form the basis
  93. for the "path" .
  94.  
  95. When you pick either an ASSIGN or a
  96. DEVICE, all of the DIRECTORIES that can be
  97. found at that location are listed in a
  98. third area on the selection screen. If you
  99. wish to place DIALOG into a certain
  100. directory and/or subdirectory, you can
  101. choose in this area.

  103. To choose a DEVICE, ASSIGN, or DIRECTORY,
  104. use your mouse pointer to "double-click"
  105. on the desired choices in the lists that
  106. you see. As you make choices, you can see
  107. the "path" being assembled in the text bar
  108. at the top of the screen.

  110. If you have selected a directory, and
  111. change your mind, you can use the PARENT
  112. button to "back-out" of the directories,
  113. one level at a time.

  115. Once you have made your choices, press the
  116. OK button to continue.

  120. Once you have specified all of the paths
  121. that you wish to, press the OK button to
  122. continue the installation.

  124. You will be asked to enter your name, and
  125. a password to use on your system. The
  126. installation program will automatically
  127. create a user account for you using this
  128. information.

  130. Next, you will be asked to indicate how
  131. many ports that you wish to have
  132. automatically installed. DLG defaults
  133. to a minimum of two ports - one for your
  134. local sessions at your keyboard, and one
  135. for remote sessions through your serial
  136. port. If you are planning on running
  137. additional phone lines to your DLG
  138. system, you should indicate these here. If
  139. you enter a number less than 2, DLG
  140. will still install the minimum two ports.

  142. The install utility will display a message
  143. window. Choose either the ABORT button to
  144. abort the installation, or the PROCEED
  145. button to begin installing DLG onto
  146. your system.

  148. As files are installed, various messages
  149. will appear in the message window, keeping
  150. you informed of the installation progress.

  152. Once the installation is complete, please
  153. read the manual on how to proceed.
